Hardcover, spiral-bound, softcover, or stapled? Which cover will suit your photo album? FlexiLivre tells you everything.
Take care of your photo album cover
Since it will give the first impression of your photo album, think about beautifying its cover. Choose the most beautiful of your photos, the one that will best symbolize the content of the inner pages. It is the one that will trigger the desire to flip through the photo album. It is the one that will invite on a journey through the pages of your photo book.
To complete the cover, do not hesitate to add a nice title or a quote according to the theme of your photo album. For this, different fonts are available. To obtain a quality cover, consider harmonizing text and photo.
On some covers, the photo will span from the front to the back cover. In this case, make sure to check the quality of the chosen photo and prefer landscape or panoramic formats.
Softcover or hardcover?
This all depends on how you plan to use your photo album. If it is meant for your library or for the top of your coffee table, then a hardcover would be preferable. It will protect the inner pages well, avoiding dog ears. However, if you plan to carry it around, for example in your luggage, choose the softcover option, which is more flexible and lighter. It will allow you to have a lightweight, handy, and practical photo album.
Furthermore, note that the number of pages in your photo book will depend on the choice of cover type (as well as the format). Thus, you can have from 10 to 400 pages with a softcover and from 24 to 250 pages with the hardcover version.
The binding of your photo album
For softcovers, three types of binding are possible: glued, stapled, or spiral. For a hardcover, two binding options are available: glued and lay-flat opening.
Want a photo album that lasts over time? The crème de la crème is undoubtedly the lay-flat binding. To learn more, do not hesitate to consult the article we dedicated to this subject (August 2017).
As for spiral binding, it allows a very free handling of the photo album pages. It guarantees great sturdiness and resistance of the book over time. It is therefore particularly suited to photo albums intended especially for children.
If you want a more elegant and sophisticated finishing touch, choose the glued binding instead. It will give your photo album the look of a real book that you will be proud to display on your coffee table or in your library.
