The Paris White Night is fast approaching so here are some tips for successful night photography.
White Night 2017
Like every year since 2002, the White Night offers artistic walks in Paris by night. Various works of art then enchant the Parisian night.
This year, the White Night is a celebration of collective creativity, collaborations between artists or citizen initiatives. This night walk will offer two routes. In the center, around City Hall, from the banks of the Seine to the Place de la République passing by Les Halles. In the north, in the La Chapelle area and up to the Rosa Park station, passing by the Halle Pajol and the CENTQUATRE.
Finally, let's note that the poster for this 16th edition of the White Night does not fail to intrigue us. And for good reason: the letters that make up its title are reversed.
So prepare your cameras without delay to shoot the most beautiful creations and atmospheres of this night.
5 Tips for Successful Night Photography
Before launching into the White Night, here is a little reminder of the basic techniques to succeed in your night photography.
- Take advantage of the blue hour
Take your photos from the end of sunset until an hour after. Thus, you will enjoy the dark blue hue of the sky that will contrast with the city lights. Avoid the dark night, which does not guarantee an excellent outcome.
- Equip yourself with a tripod
At night, you will need to extend the exposure time. Consequently, the risk of movement while taking your photo increases. So, have a tripod handy for perfect stability. Don't hesitate to use the self-timer on your camera to avoid any jolts when triggering.
- Focus on an illuminated element
Start by doing an automatic focus on an illuminated point in your frame. Then switch to manual mode and shoot. That way, the camera will not attempt to refocus when you press the shutter button.
- Prefer urban landscapes by the water
Don't forget that in long exposure, reflections on water become particularly aesthetic. Riverbanks, puddles, and drenched streets allow for playing with reflections. So don't deprive yourself of pleasure!
- Select the highest possible ISO sensitivity
By night, to compensate for the lack of ambient light, set your camera on the highest ISO sensitivity. If you're using a tripod, leave it at 100 ISO. And to immortalize White Night 2017, why not create a photo album with FlexiLivre?
