What is the best format for your photo album?

We offer a wide choice of formats for photo books. The choice of the format of your book will be based on your photos and their content. For example, for weddings we recommend large size albums, and for photos from phones it is better to choose a small size album.

Creating a photo album requires taking the time to carefully choose the dimensions it will have.

During the stages of creating your photo book, we will help you make your selection of the format, which, with the photo paper we use, will contribute to the durability, sturdiness and the optimal quality of your photo books.

Photo dimensions

Not all cameras use the same ratios, because from one camera to another, the sensors may differ.

When creating your digital photo book, you will therefore sometimes need to crop and rework them.

The general dimensions into which the shots are converted are as follows:

  • The 3/2, which are the most popular, coming from the majority of analog, hybrid, and SLR cameras.
  • The 4/3, coming from hybrid, bridge, and compact cameras.
  • The 16/9, used for TV slideshows.
  • The 1/1, mostly used for portraits.
  • The 1/2, mostly used for panoramas / landscapes.
  • The 1/3 and 1/4, less commonly offered.

We make available in our online software the features you will need to manage this issue, in order to ensure that you create the best possible personalized photo book.

Choose from our formats

Before ordering the printing on paper of the books created on our site, you will first need to choose the general format of your photo book.

The selection of one dimension over another will be based on:

  • The theme or the event for which you wish to present the footage.
  • The number of pages you wish to have (we allow you to create albums from 24 to 400 pages).
  • The type of cover you want, which will also influence the number of sheets in the booklet.

The different dimensions available for your work are as follows:

  • The A4, the most classic, available in two layouts:
o Portrait, the most versatile. It adapts to all types of events (birth, wedding, anniversary, travel, etc.) and themes (family, professional world, etc.). It allows for full-page as well as double-page portrait displays extending their full height.
o Landscape, having the same dimensions as the portrait but laid out horizontally, it is ideal for all photographs to be displayed on a double page as well as panoramic wedding, travel, and anniversary images, family snapshots, and landscapes.
  • The A5, also available in two layouts (portrait A5, landscape A5). It's a more compact format but suitable for travels, weddings, landscapes, and portraits. Ideal for creating a photo book worthy of bookstores.
  • The Square, the most original and stylish, available in two sizes:
o The small square, which is the most compact and practical as it can fit anywhere. It is suitable for cookbooks, booklets collecting children's drawings, or photographs of family moments, in particular. It also makes a nice and original gift.
o The large square, which is the most stylish. It offers excellent readability and is best suited for family portraits as well as some landscapes taken during travels. This layout also corresponds well for big events such as a wedding or a baptism.

Note that this issue is less important for photo calendars, whose measurements are quite common, but we will talk about this in another article.

Now that you have chosen the dimensions of your photo book, move on to the next step: the choice of the cover of your photo book.
