How to Improve the Image Resolution of Your Photo Album?
This is a question often asked: Is the quality of my photos alright? Will my photo album be of poor quality once printed?
Don't panic, you don't need to be an expert to succeed in your creative work. How to get quality images in your photo book? You need to check that the resolution is sufficient (from 150 dpi). To do this, simply upload your digital photos to our website. It is really easy to use.
Let yourself be guided, the editing software tells you everything!
Not sure about your shots? Give it a try. Our application indicates if the quality is sufficient. It also helps you to improve the sharpness if necessary.
How to test the clarity and readability of the shots?
When you drag your photos onto the pages of your draft, you will be told if the sharpness is not enough. A small sad orange smiley will appear in the lower right corner. If you hover your mouse over it, it will indicate that your shot may be blurry.
How to improve the sharpness of your shot in a blink of an eye?
The orange smiley then invites you to reduce the surface of each of your photos. It's the only solution to improve sharpness. Indeed, the number of pixels will remain unchanged on a smaller area.
For this, click on the white arrows on the sides and drag them towards the center of the photo to reduce it.
During this operation, a window appears giving you the width and height in millimeters. These indications are about the actual size when printed.
Prepare your digital files
Here are some answers to your questions if you want to work the images that you will insert into your photo book yourself.
How to know the characteristics of your images?
With a right click on your closed file, select "Read the information" (Mac) or "Properties" (PC). You will know the size (in bytes, KB or MB), dimensions (in pixels or megapixels MPX or MP), and file type: PNG, JPG (or JPEG), TIFF, etc.
How to know if the resolution is sufficient?
It must be (expressed in ppi) equal to or higher in relative value to the print resolution (expressed in dpi or ppp), with the desired dimensions.
How to determine it yourself?
Do the following calculation for the width, then for the height:
- Desired size (in cm) divided by 2.54 (inch) multiplied by 300 (dpi)
What is the standard resolution for a photo album?
The standard is to print a file from 150 dpi (= 150 ppp). The usual recommendation is 300 dpi.
The respective definitions for A4 and A5 formats should therefore be at least 8.4 and 2.1 MP (or MPX).
NB: Don't forget the space your text will take on each page. The recommended text-to-image ratio for the readability of your photo book is as follows: 1/3 text (maximum) for 2/3 photos. Feel free to bend this rule.
Short Dictionary
Pixel: square point that makes up an image (the higher its quantity, the more precise it is). It is counted in millions.
Definition = number of pixels in height X number in width
- Ex: 2000 X 3000 = 6000 MP or MPX (megapixels)
Resolution = density of MP that make up the shot = number of MP per unit of length.
It is expressed in dpi (dot per inch = ink dot per inch). The value in dpi designates that of the printer, therefore of the image printed on paper. In digital, it is expressed in ppi (in theory).
dpi (dot per inch) = ppp (points per inch)
Examples:
- For a screen: 72 dpi (for example).
- For our HP iGen printer: 4800 X 600 ppp.
